Liturgical Reflection…

Liturgical musicians are first of all disciples, and only then are they ministers. Joined to Christ through the Sacraments of Initiation, musicians belong to the assembly of the baptized faithful; they are worshipers above all else. Like other baptized members, pastoral musicians need to hear the Gospel, experience conversion, profess faith in Christ, and so proclaim the praise of God. Thus, musicians who serve the Church at prayer are not merely employees or volunteers. They are ministers who share the faith, serve the community, and express the love of God and neighbor through music.

Saint's blurg for July

A blessed July to all! And for you who love Our Lady and her Rosary, here are some beautiful words from Abram Ryan in My Beads, written in the 19th century and still applicable to you today:

"Sweet, blessed beads! I would not part
With one of you for richest gem
That gleams in kingly diadem;
Ye know the history of my heart."

Your sister in Christ,
Eileen Bertanzetti

Liturgical Reflection…

No other single factor affects the Liturgy as much as the attitude, style, and bearing of the priest celebrant, who prays in the name of the Church and of the assembled community. When the priest celebrates the Eucharist, he must serve God and the people with dignity and humility, and by his bearing and by the way he says the divine words he must convey to the faithful the living presence of Christ. The importance of the Priest’s participation in the Liturgy, especially by singing, cannot be overemphasized

Bulletin - June 14, 2009 (Click here to download the bulletin.)

Dear Saint Agnes Family,

I want to again thank all of you for all your support throughout this journey to the Diaconate. You have all been so wonderful to my family. Connie and I both want to just say how proud we are to be a part of God’s community at Saint Agnes. We are all commissioned to do God’s work and each of you certainly shared your talents and love with us. The many cards, gifts, songs and beautiful receptions after all three masses were overwhelming. It was such a gift to feel your love and support. Please continue to pray for me and know that you will all be in my thoughts and prayers always. Know that we are one Catholic community and we will see you often whether it be at Saint Agnes or Immaculate Conception. May God Bless you always.

Deacon Chip

Thoughts on Stewardship as a Way of Life

Then he took a cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them and they all drank from it.” - Mark 14:23
Jesus, the perfect steward, gave thanks, just before He gave Himself to us completely for our salvation. He offered us the chance to drink from His cup. In Eucharist we meet Christ personally and, if we listen to Him, we will know what drinking from His cup means for each of us. Often it means our own sacrifice – giving up some of our time, talent and treasure to do His work on earth.

The Story of Salvation – A short, clear introduction to the Catechism of the Catholic Church and fourteen books of the Bible in chronological order. [Genesis, Exodus, Numbers, Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, Ezra, Nehemiah, 1 Maccabees, Luke, Acts of the Apostles].

The first gathering will be June 1st, 2009 from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the St. Agnes Parish Center. For more information contact Leo Vuocolo at 769-7322 or 748-7383.

Liturgical Reflection…

Today is the great Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. At the heart of Catholic life is belief in the sacramental presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in bread and wine that has become his very Body and Blood. The singing of the people should be preeminent as they process to receive the Body and Blood of the Lord. The Communion song should possess themes of joy, wonder, unity, gratitude, and praise. Following ancient Roman liturgical tradition, the Communion song might reflect themes of the Gospel reading of the day. It is also appropriate to select a Communion processional hymn that reflects the liturgical action, i.e., eating and drinking the Body and Blood of Christ.

Saint's Blurb for St. Agnes Blog for June

Hi dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Do you ever get discouraged when you look at the Saints who were always performing some type of penance, such as fasting and other forms of self-denial? You think, I'll never be able to do all of that, so how can I grow in holiness and grow closer to the Lord? Saint Albert the Great gives this advice: "We must give great importance to meditation on the Passion of our Redeemer. Simply remembering or reflecting on the Passion is worth more than scourging one's self once a week for a year and fasting on bread and water, or reading the entire Psalter every day." (p. 197, Spiritual Diary: Selected Sayings and Examples of the Saints)

Your sister in Christ,
Eileen Bertanzetti
