Bulletin October 11, 2009

FROM FR. JOZEF

This week the clergy of the Altoona-Johnstown Diocese will gather with their diocesan bishop, Joseph V. Adamec for their Pastoral Conference.

If you have an emergency and need a priest, please contact: Rev. Charles Cummins, St. Luke’s, Jersey Shore Phone (570) 398-2557 or 745-3301 or Rev. Matthew Laffey, or Rev. David Griffin at (814) 865-4281 or (814) 238-5357.

Catholic Appeal – WOW!!! ONLY $335.00 is outstanding on the pledges made to the Appeal.

Last years response to the Talent Project was overwhelming, so we are again asking for your continued support as we embark on a new opportunity to be Christ’s hands on earth. The Stewardship Committee along with Fr. Jozef is inviting all parishioners to suggest the name of a local charity or organization they would like to see the St. Agnes parish family help. We will be reaching out to our brothers & sisters in need with funds from our collections during the advent season, according to the parish requests. Trusting that God will provide for the needs of St.Agnes and by also being His hands on earth as we minister to other’s needs, we will be putting into practice St. Matthew’s scripture 6:25-34. “ …Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin, but I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not provide for you, O you of little faith?” Please put your donation request in the suggestion box found in the vestibule. We will compile the requests by early November.

On Saturday, October 17th at 11:00 AM in the Parish Center, Rich Wykoff will be holding a training for anyone interested in learning how to use the laptop & projector station that was purchased with proceeds from the 2008 Basket Bingo. This equipment will be made available for any of our classes or organizations to use. You must be trained to use this equipment. Contact Rich or the Rectory if you can not make this session but you are interested in learning.

If you are suffering the loss of a loved one and would like to be with others who have dealt with or are going through the same thing, please come join our bereavement group which will be meeting on October 13th at 5:30 PM in St. Agnes Parish Center.

All Souls envelopes will be placed on the Altar all through the month of November. Please fill out your envelope with the name(s) of those you want remembered and place them in the collection basket.

EITC Tax Credit Reductions Pending

The PA House of Representatives passed HB1531 last weekend calling for $16.5 million in reductions to the tax credit program that local businesses access to provide tuition assistance to students of our Catholic schools. The Diocese’s Second Century Fund awarded close to 900 scholarships in the current school year through the EITC program. Please contact your state representative and state senator to keep funding for this innovative program intact. Besides the phone book, you can contact them via the internet. Go to www.PASchoolChoice.org to “Contact your Legislator” or go to the official web site of the PA General Assembly at www.legis.state.pa.us (enter your zip code at top right).

Stewardship as a Way of Life

It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” - Mark 10:25
These words of Jesus are so harsh that sometimes we are tempted to ignore them, thinking that He really could not have meant them. Yet when our lives revolve around too many material possessions it is difficult to find the necessary time for God, for salvation and for God’s beloved poor.
